Busy month getting the MX5 Turbo setup completed but all has been a success so far!
Lot's of hidden costs and things to work out when doing the install properly. Fire sleeves went on all lines around the manifold and turbo area.
Because of the narrow margins around turbo and chassis rail i bought some I.L Motorsport stiffer mounts too..
and the oil cooler turned up...
Cut up a section of tube and drilled some holes in it before attaching it on to two oem brackets. Have been able to then neatly hand the intercooler, oil cooler and PAS cooler lines off this...
The coolant reroute kit i bought had too shallower angles and fouled against the throttle body but luckily nothing major to fix>>
Fitted the turbo drain and soon realised JJC had left a sticker receipt in the tube!! Lucky that was found before it ended up in the sump!
Steering wheel and extension fitted>>
And the complete engine bay>>
Managed to get a Dash App that talks directly to the Megasquirt ECU too. Made a small removable bracket for a Nexus Tablet...
>>
and a lightweight single skin fibreglass roof with plexi rear screen went on...
So it was time to put some miles on the clutch before mapping! Solid weekends drive through Peak District and then off through Snowdonia before stopping off at Anglesey Drift Matsuri. No problems with the car at all. Map was definitely in need of attention but good enough to potter about on. The WRC was all over North Wales too so really did make it a mega interesting car day!
Mapping all done and car is running brilliantly. Only problem is the exhaust is massively restricting flow. It's a 2.5 inch system all the way through but for some shit reason the rear silencer reduces down to a tiny exit and bottlenecks everything. Will be replacing back box and returning for a final tweak asap. Regardless of this I am so happy, so impressed and elated of how successful this project has been so far
Took my mate Alex who had helped me throughout the build for the first proper drive... he just bought a turbo MX5 today hahahaha!!
Now dreaming up next purchases haha. Cant help but think this rear wing rendered on the car works well???>>
Just need to fit my new brake setup and get the turbo brace made before Cadwell and Oulton in the next few weeks! So happy with how quickly and enjoyable this project has been to get to this point.
