Ok, so about 2 1/2 years ago I bought my 5th mk1 clio as a part started track car with a standard F7r (2.0 16v) engine in, I ran it for 6months in this spec before I got bored and put it under the carport covered it up and built a fiat 131 Abarth.
fast forward another 6 months and the fiat was done so I got the Clio back out, drove it a couple of times before craving more power.
So starts the build,
I bought another F7r (complete engine) and stripped it down so I could send the bottom
end for boring. I acquired some wossner high compression 84.4mm forged pistons direct from wossner so they went along with the crank to the machine shop so he could work his magic. Compression is 12:1!
The head went for porting and polishing to another local shop renouned for there headwork skills.
Whilst top and bottom of the engine were being sorted I bought a new sump to finish the bottom half and set about sourcing the shiny bits for the top end.
a quick call to jenvey had me a set of 48's along with a linkage.
a new set of Bosch 380's sorted the injectors
A new timing belt kit, water pump, oil pump sorted the rest of the basics out.
after struggling to find a uk supplier for catcams that didn't want to rip me off I managed to source a set of catcam 213's and catcam adjustable pulleys. (Wanted to keep hydraulic lifters) so this is as wild as I could go.
ttv supplied a billit flywheel (a whole new story)!
anyway that pretty much had me a complete new engine.
adaptronic ecu was sourced and to my luck the lad selling also had a fresh built gearbox with a new gripper diff so I had that too!
Old engine out, new engine in and off for mapping she went. She came back with 226bhp (not a bad effort bearing in mind it was mapped on year old 95ron crappy fuel a leaking exhaust and leaking inlet manifold/crack in the exhaust!
Fast forward another 6 months and I have changed the seats, fitted a pms shifter, pms solid topmounts with integrated brace, some carbon goodies and had a full exhaust system hand tig'd to suit noise regs with v-band joins. A complete work of art!
I think that pretty much sums the car up so I'll add a few pics as I keep upgrading bits ...
