Just a heads up for those of you considering purchasing something to perform data logging - before you shell out on a vbox or similar, check out the Autosport Labs Racecapture line. They're similar to a VBox pricewise, and more powerful than most of the other dataloggers out there and have a lot of flexibility - if you're a computer type then its possible to write code to use this to control functions based on sensor readings (think shift lights, fan control, turning on gopro's when you start logging data, etc.). There's also a free app which gives you a neat dashboard when in the car, plus the ability to review data at the track
I have a RCP Mk2 in my car which is now semi permanently installed in my e36 using analogue inputs, however these are capable of being plugged into an OBD2 port and moved from car to car. They've recently upgraded to a Racecapture Mk3 which are a bit more expensive with additional support and features, or if you're looking for a cheaper option I'm sure a few of the Mk2's will be available on ebay and other places at decent prices as people upgrade - Mk2 is more than enough for what I need so might be a good time to pick-up a bargain
In terms of add-on's - wifi or Bluetooth modules for connection to gopro or a wireless dash (phone / tablet), remote telemetry via 3g / 4g, OBD2 plugs for reading CAN data directly from the car, etc., etc.. There's also a decent community (mostly in the US) developing plug-ins and scripts for the unit, including pretty much full integration for a lot of cars OBD2 channels. I'm running part of the E46 script for my ABS system to read steer angle, wheel speeds, brake actuation, and a few other things. I'm not sure what the deal is with the Mk3 - it may do even more, I've not really looked into them yet as I'm more than happy with my Mk2 version
In terms of tracks, I've gone through and added as many UK tracks as I think I'd ever use - its a quick job to capture the track info and the developers in the US are very responsive adding them to the software.
I have no affiliation to the company or the product, just wanted to let people know about it as I think its a great piece of kit and VERY reasonably priced compared to what else is out there
