As someone who has always been a fan of motorsports I have never enjoyed modern F1. I am a big fan of classic and retro F1 as the cars are more interesting and having ties with people that race some Jackie Stewart cars as well as an FW06 so I've always been around them and interested. But after the big turbo era I never really found it too captivating. Car wise they all took similar styles and it was less interesting. I was wondering if anyone else agrees.
If you are interested in the cars they belong to some to some of my family who is part of the William heritage program due to owning the first of their grand prix cars driven by Alan Jones. The two JS cars I'm less familiar with but one was a BRM and the other was a lotus.

I like F1, used to love it but since all the rules changed back in 2009 I only watch it if I can be bothered, I now watch a lot of the BTCC as it has much closer racing and is just more exciting all over as a series!

Got all the passes through friends. The venue and treatment was better then the racing for me. Nevertheless I do admire the machinery but the racing itself isn't good to watch.

I do agree the level of aero hampers with close racing, but it's never going to be btcc (which I love) rubbin is racing. But look at Baku the other week, was a crazy race so many incidents and shows us what could be

For all the criticism F1 receives from people saying its boring, lack of over taking, BTCC is better etc etc. Yes the BTCC is fantastic for providing bumper to bumper action but F1 (for me) is so much better.
You have to get past the fact that you might not get much over taking and look at what F1 is really about. The fastest cars ever made with with worlds greatest drivers in the seat pushing the limits of what is mechanically and physically possible.
99% of people could drive a BTCC car quickly but only 1% could get the most from an F1 car.

The real drivers come from the WRC, the speed those guys hit the stages at is frightening! Few F1 drivers have tried to make it in that sport and failed, takes real balls to drive a rally car flat out!

I agree. I think WRC produces the best drivers. They do everything in motorsports usually. It's a lot more impressive and entertaining to watch rally then F1 and there is no overtaking in that

F1 is a technical marvel, it's not the most interesting racing but you have got to hand it to them that they push the boundarys.
BTCC or WEC provides much closer and interesting racing but doesn't push things as far forwards.
The money in F1 is obscene, my sister in law recently toured Redbulls headquarters which is crazy

Quite a few people I speak to say that BTCC etc is better than Formula one but its a futile comparison really, like chalk and cheese.
I follow both closely but I do think F1 provides a global spectacle regardless of the level of overtaking. The tactical battles provide just as much excitement if you sit and really understand the prospect of how hard the teams work to outwit each other.
I am slightly worried about where F1 could be heading with the new American ownership......I hope it doesn't loose its passion and roots!

the f1 was pretty epic this weekend! although I think it could do with a few 20 lap sprint races to REALLY fire it up and take the pit stop strategy out of it
